Leicester Riders are proud to announce the re-signing of Duke Shelton (207-C/F-1995, college: Tampa) for the 2025/26 Super League Basketball season.

The American-born forward, who holds a British passport, returns for his third straight campaign in Riders colours. Originally joining the club in January 2024, Shelton has quickly established himself as a fan favourite with his high-flying dunks and passion for the game

Last season, Shelton brought consistent energy and leadership to the squad, contributing 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in just 12 minutes of action. But his impact extended far beyond the box score—his intensity in training and games set the tone for the team throughout their successful campaign, which culminated in a Playoff Final victory.

A seasoned professional with ten years of experience across European basketball, including two seasons with the Newcastle Eagles before arriving in Leicester.

At 6’10”, Shelton is a commanding presence in the paint, known for his physicality, rim protection, and relentless work ethic. His ability to lead by example, combined with his passionate style of play, makes him a cornerstone of the Riders’ frontcourt.

“It feels great to return to Leicester,” said Shelton

“It’s just like home, I’m excited to get battling with the new team and get back in front of the fans and reach the ultimate goal again. I’m just ready to get back in action and show the hard work that’s been put in. There are a lot of great things to look forward to this season."

"Coming off of a championship, I feel like I know exactly what it takes physically and mentally to reach that point again and am excited for the challenge.”

Riders Head Coach Rob Paternostro highlighted Shelton’s leadership and influence as key reasons for his return

“We are excited to have Duke back for his third season with our club. Duke was an important part of last year’s successful team. His energy efficiency and activity were vital for us."

"Duke is a player who is always ready to play; he consistently plays with a passion and enthusiasm that is exciting to watch.”
